Note: While performing this modification, there is still a slight possibility of the Rx's MOSFET circuit getting damaged. By doing this modification, www.rtf-heli.com is not repsonsible for any Rx's burning out. One way to minimize the chance of the MOSFET circuit burnout is to install the FUSE MOD before performing the below MOD.
your nearest hobby store or Radio Shack. Why do this modification ? After installing the super skids 300 landing gear system, the heat sinks on the main motor and tail motor, metal flybar rods, metal tail boom struts, metal rotor head core, titanum tail boom from super skids, ON/OFF switch, etc, -- the heli weighed in at about 13 ounces. A standard 7.4 volt LIPO could not lift the heli more than 2-3 feet above ground. The solution was to get a bigger 380 carbon brushed motor or use a larger battery. The problem with a 380 motor is that its RPMs are too high and will cause spinning as the tail motor cannot compensate. Using an 11.1 volt LIPO can cause the Rx's MOSFET circuit to melt at leave the Rx inoperative. The receiver is about half the cost of your four channel helicopter. We have limited the chances of a burnout with the below modifications. (Note: This modification will also still work using using a 7.4 Volt LIPO but lift problems will still be an issue)
The main motor is a 370 carbon brushed motor w/11t pinion 0.5m and is a direct replacement for the main stock motor. The main stock motor is a 370 carbon brushed motor w/10t 0.5m, which is tight on the main gear and really makes the Rx heat up. The 11t is smooth and makes the heli purr like a cat. The tail motor also uses a tail motor(N20) which has a 10t pinion versus the tail stock pinion which is 8t. The tail motor runs smooth. Before installing the tail motor, you'll need a small wire cutter to cut around the tail motor holder as the pinion is slightly bigger than the stock pinion. Cut around the edges until you can fit the pinion thru. Be careful not to cut the mounting holes.
Rx upon lift off because the main motor and tail motor have more teeth causing little resistance on the gears.

Parts List: (1) 370 Carbon Brushed Motor w/ 11t pinion (1) N20 Carbon Brushed Motor w/ 10t pinion (1) Line Filter w/ Male/Female JST Connectors for tail motor (1) 11.1 Volt 1,000 Mah 25c LIPO Battery (Recommended) |
Here is a wicked short flight of the Exceed Falcon 40 modified with the 11.1 volt 1,000 Mah LIPO battery and fuse modifications. Super Skids 300 is installed to accomodate the LIPO battery and improve the CG. The typical flight time is about 10 minutes. The video will show how fast this bird can move and climb. I also did some spins which is harder to do using a 7.4v 1,000 Mah LIPO. For the Flamming Red Canopy and blades (Click here) |
